Featured content represents the best that Wikipedia has to offer. These are the articles, pictures, and other contributions that showcase the polished result of the collaborative efforts that drive Wikipedia. All featured content undergoes a thorough review process to ensure that it meets the highest standards and can serve as an example of our end goals. A small bronze star (The featured content star) in the top right corner of a page indicates that the content is featured. This page gives links to all of Wikipedia's featured content and showcases one randomly selected example of each type of content. You can view another random content selection.

A Green and Golden Bell Frog

The Green and Golden Bell Frog is a ground-dwelling tree frog native to eastern Australia. Measuring 11 centimetres (4.3 in) in length, the Green and Golden Bell Frog is one of the largest Australian frogs. Many populations, particularly in the Sydney region, are in areas of frequent disturbance, including golf courses, disused industrial land, brick pits and landfill areas. Once one of the most common frogs in south-east Australia, the Green and Golden Bell Frog has undergone major population declines, leading to its current classification as globally vulnerable. Population numbers have continued to decline and major threats include habitat loss and degradation, pollution, introduced species, and parasites and pathogens, such as the amphibian chytrid fungus. Queen meat ant

A queen meat ant burrowing a hole after her nuptial flight, an important phase in the reproduction of most ant and some bee species. Young queens and males stay in their parent colony until conditions are right. During the flight, the queen will usually mate with several males, after which mated queens land and remove their wings. They then attempt to found a new colony.

The adoption of defense of marriage constitutional amendments over time

There are several different types of what have been unofficially termed defense of marriage amendments in the United States. These amendments to U.S. state constitutions have been enacted in order to prevent civil unions or same-sex marriages from being legalized, though some of the amendments bar only the latter. As of 2010, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont and New Hampshire are the only U.S. states to allow same-sex marriage. The District of Columbia also allows same-sex marriages.

Thirty defense of marriage amendments have been adopted. Of these, ten make only same-sex marriage unconstitutional, seventeen make both same-sex marriage and civil unions unconstitutional, two make same-sex marriage, civil unions, and other contracts unconstitutional, and one is unique. Hawaii's amendment is unique in that it does not make same-sex marriage unconstitutional; rather, it allows the state to limit marriage to opposite-sex couples. Virginia's amendment prevents the state from recognizing private contracts that "approximate" marriage. Observers have pointed out that such language encompasses private contracts and medical directives.
